Gold Filled
A much thicker layer of gold (mechanically bonded, not just coated) over a base metal, usually brass. Because the gold layer is more substantial, gold filled pieces hold their color far longer than gold plated ones.
Gold Vermeil (pronounced ver-may)
Gold plating over a sterling silver base, with a thicker gold layer than standard plating. The silver base makes it more hypoallergenic than plating over other base metals, and the extra thickness helps it last.
Silver Plated
A thin layer of silver applied over a base metal, giving the look of silver at a more accessible price point. Like gold plating, it may wear over time with regular use.
Bronze
A solid metal alloy (mostly copper, with some tin) — not a plating or coating. Bronze has a warm, antique-gold tone and will naturally develop a soft patina over time.
