Jewelry Care
Jewelry Care
Our jewelry is delicate by design, so a little care goes a long way. Since none of our pieces are solid gold or silver, we recommend removing them before showering or swimming, and before bed to help them last. For best results, apply lotions and perfumes first, then put your jewelry on last — always the finishing touch.
Jewelry FAQs: Understanding Our Metals
Jewelry FAQs: Understanding Our Metals
Gold Plated
A thin layer of gold applied over a base metal. It's an affordable way to get a gold look, though the plating can wear thin over time with frequent wear or exposure to moisture.
Gold Filled
A much thicker layer of gold (mechanically bonded, not just coated) over a base metal, usually brass. Because the gold layer is more substantial, gold filled pieces hold their color far longer than gold plated ones.
Gold Vermeil (pronounced ver-may)
Gold plating over a sterling silver base, with a thicker gold layer than standard plating. The silver base makes it more hypoallergenic than plating over other base metals, and the extra thickness helps it last.
Silver Plated
A thin layer of silver applied over a base metal, giving the look of silver at a more accessible price point. Like gold plating, it may wear over time with regular use.
Bronze
A solid metal alloy (mostly copper, with some tin) — not a plating or coating. Bronze has a warm, antique-gold tone and will naturally develop a soft patina over time.
